February 8th

Another exciting evening, with new members joining us. The evening saw two experienced speakers deliver fine speeches and an up and coming speaker give his structure speech. Our manual has been well recieved and we continue to strive forward in our independent state.

The topics session was chair by a newer member who challenged us all well with a job interview style topic session.

A great evening and we all look forward to our next meeting on the 22nd.

January 8th Meeting

Christmas, New Year and snow all pushed aside and we all came back with some great enthusiasm and dedication. The meeting enjoyed an experienced member taking control of the evening and guiding us through an interesting and challenging evening. It was kicked off with an additional warm up for some to exercise their vocal cords and challenge them to read versus from well known poems. The task was to be over zealous and over act the verse which was tackle very well almost by all!! We then had two very good speeches by new members and we look forward to more from them. After a wonderful cup of tea and biscuit, we were all then challenged to a debit style topics session. This worked really well and everyone enjoyed the session. The evening was rounded off down the pub!

My thanks to those who came that evening and a very big thank you to the chairman!

December 14th Meeting

The last meeting of the decade and it was my first attempt at chairing! Well there some improvement required there! However a very enjoyable evening with two great icebreakers and a very useful tutorial. A great evening had by all I think which was finished off in the pub for a festive drink!

November 23rd Meeting

Sometimes you are just amazed! We knew that many of our regular members were unable to attend, and I thought we might be a little short on numbers. Not so! We were delighted to welcome at least four people for the first time, as well as a couple of people returning to us. We had a terrific meeting. Confident speaking, ice-breakers, and everything working perfectly in terms of encouraging both new and experienced members to enjoy our art. It all goes to show that sometimes you just never know. We have a strong core membership that can give so much to newcomers, and they in turn encourage the whole club to develop and grow. It really is an uplifting experience to spend an evening at Croydon Speakers club. Already I am looking forward to our next meeting.

October came and now we look forward to November!

Unfortunately I missed the first meeting of October but I hear it was a small affair. What happened? I am not sure but what i do know was that the meeting continued and we hit back last night!

We enjoyed two ice breakers which were a great success and we all look forward to more speeches from our newcomers. We also had an impromptu speech from one of our seasoned members. Always a very difficult task and it was a expertly tackled.

Our topics session challenged us all and was hugely enjoyable and created lots of laughs and was brilliantly delivered by Frank.

All in all a very enjoyable and successful evening.

We spoke, we listened, we learned

And did we have fun? oh yes!

This meeting treated us to a tutorial session on constructing a speech from a very experienced and professional speaker. A member took up the challenge to demonstrate how to deliver the speech we all contributed to create. We then all enjoyed a humor speech which was cleverly constructed speech in response to one of the speeches from the last meeting!

We also welcomed 3 more new members to the club and they all did a great job in delivering their first topic. The meeting in my mind was a great success and great start to the new speaking year. Roll on October!
