It is always good to see progress being made. Tonight was no exception. We had someone taking the Chairman role for the first time and doing very well indeed. We had one of our newer speakers delivering a level 3 speech, two expereinced speakers also entertaining us, and then good opportunity for people to practice the difficult art of evaluation. All of that was before the tea break. Croydon really does provide a really positive learning expereince. Our two first-time guests certainly had a treat and both of them felt able to join in the impromptu speaking in the second half. This themed session ensured that everyone got a good opportunity to speak. Positive and helpful evaluations highlighted the learning points and the meeting just about finished on time! Quite how we pack so much into each meeting is amazing. It was a strong vibrant evening which made coming out into the cold and damp well worthwhile. Congratulations to everyone who took part in an evening that demonstrated what a great club Croydon Speakers has become.

Monday 10th November

Another inspiring evening saw a new speaker moving up the levels with ease. It seems just a few meetings ago when we tonight’s speaker first came to us. In a short period of time she has grown immensely and entertained us with a wonderfully crafted and beautifully delivered speech that would easily have been assessable at a number of levels. We were entertained and enthralled by the speech, its delivery and pleased to see such progress being made. Everyone also got the chance to speak as we made use of PowerPoint to give every speaker the chance to explore this tool. Croydon leads the way with PowerPoint and we are innovative in the ways we encourage even the most technically challenged people to just begin to get comfortable with it, despite not needing to get ‘hands on’. As a result we had a good evening of speaking, socialising and self development. We are already looking forward to our next meeting which has three speakers lined up and more.
